The 2010 Voice Jazz Critics’ Poll

JM

This year, I was invited to participate in the the Village Voice’s annual Jazz Critics’ Poll. While I will expand on these selections in the Erie Times’ ShowCase entertainment tab on Thursday, and in a more thorough blog post this weekend, the results are out, and there’s no point in embargoing what Google will reveal. You can read my picks here (the entries are listed alphabetically, so scroll down; you’ll find me undeservedly between Brent Burton of JazzTimes and the New York Times’ Nate Chinen). The rather similar list compiled by the estimable Francis Davis can be found here with his typically lucid and penetrating analysis of the year on record. And why was Jason Moran’s “10” left off my list? Well, I haven’t heard it yet, but you’d better believe that I will, and fast.
